Cannes, after Monaco, has been the best spot in the South of France to go supercar spotting. Seen here is a Ferrari F50 parading on the Boulevard de la Croisette (also known as !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - 4:00 mark in the YouTube link). But I digress,...
The owner then parks his F50, and decides doors are too conventional of a way to exit an F50. I don't want to spoil the rest, so just watch the clip below.
For those appalled by the livery, it gets worse (well, first it gets better... I kind of like the Veyron scheme). Cars owned by the 'RRR' group (Rich in Real Estate Resources) are all wrapped in orange bits. The group is owned by Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman. Not pictured are an RR Drophead, a dozen G wagons a Pagani Zonda, and likely a few more ruined supercars. Check it out:
But forget about RRR for a minute and let's circle back to the Gumball 3000, which was the real deal back in the early 2000's. It was born in 1999 when Maximillion Cooper dialed his 50 best friends from the fashion and music industry from a Rolodex in his London flat and told them he was organizing a 6 day, 6 country, 3000 mile trip from London to Rimini and back to to 5 Formula 1 tracks. He'd also organize parties at stunning locations each night. Some people that showed up were Kate Moss, Billy Zane, Guy Ritchie, Chris Eubank, Dannii Minogue and even Monica Lewinski. One guy brought a CLK GTR homologated road car along. The rest is history. Here's a bit more about the 2004 rally that featured an all-star collection of Gumball legends (Lonman, Ant & Pete, Alex Roy, Kimble, etc.)
Everyone agrees 2004 was the best year with the toughest participants.
Gumball 3000 2004
The sixth race was held in May 2004, back again in Europe. The race went from the Eiffel Tower in Paris to Biarritz, Madrid, Marbella, then crossed over to Africa, to Marrakech in Morrocco as guests of the King, before returning to Spain for the Barcelona Grand Prix, finishing in Cannes at the famous film festival. 192 amazing cars took part, but the car that stole the show was a little old Citroen 2CV painted like the General Lee. Ex Boxing world champion Chris Eubank drove a truck, whilst The Pianist Academy winning actor Adrien Brody favoured a Porsche and the 'Ai Ya' Boys just rented a Winnebago. On Gumball its seems just about anything goes.
And this year they're starting at the end of May in Finland - Amsterdam, hopping on some planes, and then continuing from Rhino via SF, LA to LV, all in 7 days. I'll be there for the latter.

This should be called "How Not to Paint Your Ferrari F50"
Maybe he look the orange theme a bit too far and welded the doors shut a la General Lee.

I've never seen such a high concentration of assholes in one place at the same time. These people have no respect for anyone or anything. They're not car people. They don't care about the history of the fine automobiles that they irresponsibly thrash for the sake of having a good time and showing off. If it wasn't for my love of cars and their history I would hope for them all to crash just so they learn a lesson. Unfortunately that would needlessly punish the innocent cars.
The same goes for all the sheikhs and other middle-easterners with way too much money. They have no class when it comes to cars, or much else. All they care about is showing off and rubbing it in our faces how much oil money they have.

Hahahahahaahaha! Best theory yet! But seriously, the RRR group has all their cars like that. They're not the most tasteful bunch.

Please let there be a P1, TheFerrariSquared, and Porsche 918 this year, with proper drivers.
We're STILL waiting to see which is faster.
